BASKETBALL TEAMS TO HOST 1ST ANNUAL DANIEL SULLIVAN MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/12/12)  The Dominican College women’s and men’s basketball teams will host the first annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament November 16th-18th on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.  The women’s portion of the tournament will take place on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, while the men will be in action Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Sullivan, a 1976 graduate of Dominican College, was a four-year member of the men’s basketball team.  He ranks eighth in the Charger 1,000 point club with 1492 career points and was inducted into the Dominican College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.

He was a life-long Rockland County resident who tragically passed away on October 31, 2011.

In his memory, the Dan Sullivan Foundation was established to provide charitable
contributions to those facings life’s most difficult challenges and to
provide scholarships to students who reflect the qualities that define
Dan’s life. The Foundation’s work honors the life of a man who had a
positive impact and was truly loved.

There is no greater way to honor Dan’s memory than to spread some joy,
offer a helping hand or help a young person reach their goals. In
life, Dan always tried to make things “alright” for others. The Dan
Sullivan Foundation will help continue that legacy.

We recently received a heart felt thank you from John Thompson and wanted to share it with everyone.  Nothing would make Dan happier than knowing he made someone’s time on this Earth a little easier.  Congratulations again John!

We would like to congratulate John Lee Thompson from Nanuet High School.  His self determination and dedication towards achieving his goals exemplifies exactly how Dan Sullivan lived his life.  We are honored to provide him with a scholarship to help him continue down his road of success.

Hi Mr. Sullivan,
My mom and I have gone over the day and your touching speech and the honor  the Sullivan Foundation has given me.  I didn’t get a chance to see you after the ceremony but wanted to let you know how appreciative I am and how much this means to me.  I had the opportunity to speak with Mrs. Sullivan one-on-one afterward and I will never forget that moment or the memory of Mr. Sullivan and what a special person he was.  I can promise you today that his memory will be kept alive in my heart and mind and in that of my family.

Thank you again for making today so special.
